Dear Basketball Candidate and Parents Letter
Posted on: Monday, September 07, 2009April 21,2010
Dear Basketball Candidate and Parents:
Welcome to the 2010-2011 basketball season information letter packet. All candidates will have equal opportunity to be part of something great, work hard, and be in great basketball condition prior to tryouts.
Eligibility and Physical Examination
Please review the eligibility guidelines.
No student-athlete may participate in any official team related activity without a Physical Examination. Physical forms are available at the activities office.
Candidates
All candidates will be judged by our tryouts; basketball skills, time trials, enthusiasm, work ethic, being coachable, teamwork, citizenship, and academics.
Teams and Playing Time
Each team may consist of 10-12 student-athletes. (Based of uniforms)
The Freshman Team is made up of only freshman; the freshman team goal is to develop student-athletes with basketball fundamentals, and to understand basic offensive and defensive Strategy and play competitive basketball. We plan to have all freshmen team members to gain game time playing experience.
The Junior Varsity Team is made up of freshmen through juniors; we will want them to play very competitive basketball. With our JV team we want players to start to earn playing time through practice development.
The varsity Team is made up of the best candidates from freshman to seniors. We will play highly competitive basketball and all teams will learn the system. The varsity format has no guarantee of playing time. Playing time will be based on practice effort and development, game knowledge of plays, prior game performance, having a positive attitude, player skills and match ups, who is playing well, who needs a rest, foul situations, and score and time of the game. Players have many opportunities to earn playing time.
Tryouts
All candidates will try out for (Varsity, JV, and Freshman) team selection, over a four day period. All team tryouts are in the same gym location and same time. & PM November 15 is the starting day for tryouts. You must have a Physical Examination to tryout. All candidates must attend all days for tryouts. The coaching staff will place candidates on appropriate teams based on ability of the student-athlete.
Team Selection
All candidates will be given an envelope with team selection data; what team you made, if you did not make a team and why, and evaluation of strengths and weakness. I will not post a list, email a list, or make phone calls to any candidate. This also gives the candidate the option to concentrate on academics and other activities if they did not make the team, but no one would ever know what choice was made. All candidates should open envelope in the privacy of their own home.
Once a candidate (student-athlete) makes a team, the coach will go over player roles and suggestions for improvement from the evaluation of strengths and weaknesses.
Costs
We have “Spirit Packs” sweatpants, sweatshirts, t-shirts, practice uniform, etc. Spirit Pack $135
Uniforms and Travel bags
All players will take care of uniforms and school equipment during the season, please care for equipment to instructions on uniforms. Please return at end of season, for release of grades and no charges.
Injuries
If you have any injuries please wear your protective equipment, If you get injured please see the trainer ASAP. If you have any health medical concerns: Diabetes, Asthma, ACL, and Heart, etc. You need to pass and get clearance from a medical doctor from the Physical Examination, our athletic trainer and coaching staff need to know how to assist you for your wellness.

College Recruiting
We can work on a presentation packet; academics, send game schedule, unedited game film, and stats. As a player you should try to visit the college, attend the college summer basketball camp. Fill out the college questionnaire many are online. Many colleges do attend summer basketball events. The colleges are limited with observation dates to see players; they have dates when they can communicate with you. Also, the NCAA has a clearinghouse; please communicate with guidance counselor, parents, and coach.
Commitment
It is an honor not a right to be a member of a team that represents your school community and your family; it also looks great on college applications to be a part of extracurricular activities. It is a time commitment, a participating in all basketball related activities from practice to travel and games over the holidays. Basketball should take precedence over all other extra-curricular activities, except activities related to academics.
Team Managers
Game and practice duties: scorebook, stats, video tape, towels, and water, etc. We will need team managers prior to tryouts too.
