CoEd Spring Track & Field
Langley Track & Field invites all family and friends to join us in celebrating our seniors as we compete in some fun events on Monday May 6th from 5pm to 7pm. Everyone is invited to run, jump, and throw with the team. The senior athlete parade will begin at 5pm with running and field events immediately following.
The meet is open to everyone and has no entry restrictions other than the state rules that say each athlete may only compete in 3 running events and may do unlimited field events. To help us with planning the meet and the team meal, please go to the following link and tell us if you are coming and what events you plan to do. You may change events on Wednesday, but this will give us an idea of who may run what.

There will be a team meal after school in the gym lobby ONLY FOR THOSE THAT REGISTER AT THE LINK ABOVE AND HAVE PAID THEIR TEAM FUND FEE. So if you haven’t paid the fee or turned in your paperwork, get that in by Tuesday!
The meet starts by 5:30pm (or as soon as possible after all the teams arrive and warm-up). The meet usually ends by 8:30pm. IF YOU WANT TO COMPETE, YOU MUST STAY FOR THE ENTIRE MEET! If you have other things you have to do and would need to leave early, then don’t sign up for the meet. The meet is team-scored and we will all stay to the last event and cheer our teammates on as we try to win the meet. You wouldn’t leave a basketball game before it’s over just because you are on the bench…and we won’t leave our teammates who are competing in the final events either. After the conclusion of the meet, athletes will help clean up before leaving!
Spring track has a few additional forms that must be completed before we enter athletes into any of our track meets. They include the a Checklist, FCPS Participation Form, Team Fund, Off-Campus Running, and Weight Room form. You may find these forms under "Team Files". Please download the checklist and required forms, pay the team fund, and return the forms to the coaches at practice by Friday March 15th.
The Team Fund is a request for $100 from each family (even if you have multiple athletes on the team). The funds are used by the Team Parents to purchase team meals for the athletes before our Wednesday night meets, and bagels, water, Gatorade, and snacks for our Saturday meets. The fund also covers the End-of-Season Awards Banquet and Dinner that all athletes and their family are invited to. Please contact the coaching staff or Ms. Spear if you have questions or concerns about the team fund.
The link to pay the Team Fund via PayPal is below and under Team Links:
Tryouts for Spring Track have concluded. If you haven't filled out the Google Form at #4 below, please do so immediately so you and your family receive the e-mail updates. .
All track athletes must have completed the following:
1. Physical form on file in the Activities Office
2. Both parent and student completion of Concussion Education (CLICK HERE)
3. Emergency Care Card submitted to track mailbox in Activities Office (copy at same link as #2)
4. Register for tryouts at the Google Forms page (CLICK HERE)
5. Scan the QR Code below and select spring outdoor track. Sign in with your FCPS Google e-mail address.
If all these conditions have been met, you will be placed on the list for a tryout. We usually keep around 120 athletes in total, 60 boys and 60 girls. Unfortunately, if we have more athletes than that try out, we may have to make cuts as we are only allotted two busses to travel to meets. Athletes are chosen based primarily on times run in the try out events: 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, and 1600m. Suggested times to make the team are listed below with freshmen times in parenthesis:
100m Boys 13.0 (13.0) Girls 15.0 (15.0)
200m Boys 26.0 (29.0) Girls 32.0 (35.0)
400m Boys 59.0 (65.0) Girls 1:15 (1:20)
800m Boys 2:30 (2:40) Girls 3:10 (3:15)
1600m Boys 5:40 (5:50) Girls 6:45 (7:00)
While these time do not guarantee a spot on the team, achieving two or more of the times usually results in an athlete making the squad.
Throwers will run the 100m and test in a variety of other drills such as standing long jump and strength tests.
